Examination

Comprehensive students - will be required to pass the following exams

Beginner system - practical teaching exam after approx 100 hours of apprenticeship-the exam will be 55 minutes and you will teach a beginner client the entire beginner system from reformer to wall.

Intermediate system - practical teaching exam after approx 300 hours of apprenticeship-you will be expected to teach the intermediate reformer, and mat plus the exercises you have chosen for your client from the rest of the apparatus.
The exam will be 55 minutes. You will be asked to explain why you chose the exercises for your client please allow an additional 15 minutes for this.

Advanced system - practical exam after approx 400 hours- you will be required to each either advanced mat or reformer as well as exercises you have chosen for your client. Whichever part you do not teach you will then do as your self practice.

Final exam - You will teach a beginner and intermediate client together utilising both systems within a 55 minute session.

All practical examinations will be given a pass / fail immediately.


The written exam will comprise of anatomical questions as well as questions relating to the Pilates method, the history and the method itself. You will also be tested on your knowledge of how to adapt the method for special needs clients. The exam should take half an hour to complete.

All hours are approximate as you may schedule any exam earlier if you feel you are ready to take it. All retakes will be charge as additional. All hours must be completed and the final exam taken by Nov 2010

Bridge participants - will take the final exam and be required to personally do either the advanced reformer or mat which will be chosen on the day. You will also be required to take the written exam.
